MTD Services
No matter where you’re going in Champaign-Urbana, MTD has you covered, with an extensive network of buses, vans and strategic transportation partners that offer the following services:
Fixed Routes
Fixed routes are simply what we call the main bus routes, which operate on a regular schedule. For the convenience of the traveling public, all fixed routes have buses equipped with wheelchair lifts. A maximum of two wheelchairs can be accommodated on each bus. If the wheelchair area is full, please wait for the next available bus.
Express Service
Express service is a variation of the fixed-route service and typically operates on special routing ONLY during morning and afternoon peak hours.
Direct Service
Designed to connect out-lying areas to fixed route service, direct service offers van transportation within designated areas not served by a regular route.
Hopper Service
MTD has several routes that include ‘Hopper’ Service — Green, Yellow, Gold, and Orange. While regular buses serve the entire route, ‘Hopper’ buses only serve the portion of the route that experience the heaviest rider volume. If you need to travel beyond the ‘hopper’ portion of these routes, do not board a bus that includes the word ‘hopper’ on its destination sign.
ADA Paratransit Service
This exceptional service offers curb-to-curb transportation service for persons with disabilities who are unable to use fixed route services. ADA Paratransit service is provided by reservations only, and all reservations must be made at least one day prior to service. Eligible riders must submit an application and be registered prior to using this service. To apply, just call 384.8188 and ask for ADA Services.
Half-Fare Cab Program
This supplemental program, provided exclusively for DASH pass holders, provides discounted cab rides within the C-U MTD boundaries. For a complete list of participating cab companies and detailed program guidelines, call 384.8188 and ask for ADA Services.
SafeRides
SafeRides is a limited MTD service that provides safe transportation for individuals who are generally traveling alone when no other means of safe transportation is available. Learn more about this seasonal service.
