Routes & Schedules

So, What’s New in Service?

The short answer is “lots!
The longer answer is:

  • The Quad, Shuttle East and West, Scamp, and Pack are gone, replaced with great new service which is easier to understand.
  • Brand new routes are the Teal and the Navy.
  • Routes and services with familiar names operating quite differently are the Yellow, Gold, Silver, Illini, and Northeast Direct.
  • Existing routes with new names and slightly modified operation are the Bronze (formerly Orchard Downs) and Pink (formerly Link).

If you’re on campus, you’ll find more frequent service, easier routing, and service later at night. This map shows the ‘high frequency’ core service. These routes operate at 10- to 15-minute intervals all day when the University’s in session, and most operate more frequently than ever before year-round. It’s faster and easier than ever before to get to the east side of the Quad, and downtown Champaign and Urbana are a quick one-seat ride away.

Take some time to review the timetables and maps for the improved routes at your convenience. Changes have been made to weekday, Saturday, and Sunday service. As always, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 217.384.8188 if you need help.

Seasonal Route Information

The Air Bus, Green, Gold, Illini, Teal, and Yellow operate differently depending upon whether or not the University of Illinois is in session. During University Fall and Spring Semesters, these services operate more frequently, travel different routes, or operate later at night than during Breaks and Summer Session. If you are in doubt, give us a call at 217.384.8188.

What's a Hopper?

The MTD has three routes which include ‘Hopper’ service: the Green, Yellow, and Gold. The term ‘Hopper’ appended to a route name indicates that some of the buses operating on these routes (GREENhopper, YELLOWhopper, and GOLDhopper) do not traverse the entire length of the route from end-to-end. The GREENhopper operates during UI fall and spring semesters only.

If the destination sign on the front of the bus indicates that it is a ‘Hopper,’ that particular bus serves only the ‘Hopper’ portion of the route and does not continue all the way to the east/west or north/south end of that route. If you wish to travel beyond the ‘Hopper’ portion of the Green, Yellow, or Gold route, you should board a bus which does not include ‘Hopper’ on its destination sign.

On the route map, the regular route is shown as a solid color, and the ‘Hopper’ portion of the route is highlighted with a striped line.
